When I worked on a driving range as a kid I once sold the bloke who played Jim Branning a bucket of balls, long before he was Jim Branning.
Took me ages to work out how I knew him. Finally realised he was the security guard in the 'Sha-a'dow' episode of Only Fools!

Strange isn't the older I got the more likable the Big man appeared to be. What a character! Barn storming He used to come across like that cartoon southern US rooster but he mellowed out and showed a lot of conciliation with his old IRA enemies. He was also supposed to be a good constituency MP, as well.

Apparently (according to the Beeb obit), he had a cordial relationship with Martin McGuinness when McGuinness was his deputy in the all-party government (2007-8).
A bit embarrassing for anyone who ever joined a rabble roused by one or the other.

May he rest in peace. Yes i probably found him very annoying but he fought his fight with dignity and character.
As some say you can never judge or understand fully if you are not in that persons shoes. I will not miss the booming angry voice but his conviction both against and then for a togetherness with the Catholics I respect.
